Dear users and readers of our website! The employees of “Human Rights in the XXI Century- Azerbaijan” will be on vacation from July 15 to August 15.With this regard, there will not be any updating in the site. We wish you good summer rest, as well.

In June 1- International protection day of children, the employees of “Human Rights in XXI Century- Azerbaijan” Foundation have arranged a meeting with children living in “Minor Boarding School of Republic Designated for Orphans and Children without Parents”.

During the meeting, the children have been provided with holiday presents and books collected in the frame of the action “A book for each”. We express our deep gratitude to everyone who has taken part in the action! We present the photos captured during the meeting.

Mr. Jamalov went to school ¹1 in the Jajilabad region in 1986-1994 and received secondary education in a private Turkish lycée in 1994-1998 in Lankaran. Shahin Jamalov received a bachelor degree in the International Law and International Relational Faculty of the Baku State University. He gained a master’s degree in the international law in 2004. He is presently a post-graduate in the International Law Section of the Institute of Philosophy and Political-Legal Studies of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

Mr. Jamalov studies the human rights situation in South Caucasus and is the author of a research work and many topical articles. He is one of the founders of the “Khazar” School financially sponsored by the OSCE Baku Office, which implement and promote human rights. He was the editor and executive secretary of the “Caspian panorama” social and political magazine. He is currently the editor-in-chief of the “Citizen and Society” newspaper. He is the author of the teachers’ manuals the “Human rights” and “Human rights in school”.

In 2002-2004, he worked as an analytical expert in international law in the Public Union “Caspian Partnership for the Future International Movement”. From 2004 until September 2007, he was the executive director of the public union. From September 2007, Mr. Jamalov is the president of the Foundation “Human Rights in the XXI century-Azerbaijan.” He is a member of the Joint Working Group for the Implementation of International Human Rights Standards, the Director of the "Hot line" service of the Joint Working Group, a member of the Public Committee under the Ministry of Justice.

He was born in 1984. He is an alumnus of the Law faculty of the Baku State University. He is interested in question of the constitutionally fixing of human rights, and develops projects about theoretical and practical ways of the protection of human rights.

Asgarov Agshin Binjamin has got his secondary education in Astara, at school number 1, he has studied in Lankaran State University in 2002-2006, faculty-“Humanitarian and Pedagogical Sciences” , speciality- “The English language and Literature”. When it comes to his work experience he has launched his career in Euroasa Foundation`s project “Azerbaijan Youth Fund” as a volunteer responsible for interwieving and later “International Relations and Fundraising” . In 2004-2006 he has worked as an interpreter in Shafag Ekoutourism public union in Lankaran, and later in 2007-2008, as a site-monitor in “Regional Libraries and Information Center” a project of “International Researches and Exchanges Board” in Astara, in 2008-2009 have been responsible for PR in the project “Promotion of Economical Rights of Impaired People”. At present, he works in “Human Rights XXI century-Azerbaijan” Foundation liable for “International Relations and Fundraising”.

Coercion to children occurs everywhere- at schools, in families, in streets and in pre-trial prisons. Coersion does not only put their health in jeopardy but also their future generally. Children can not form themselves as personalities. According to the law “About Children`s Rights” which was adopted in 1998, in Azerbaijan, anyone under 18 is considered to be a child. The existing laws of the country– Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic, Labour Code, Code of Family and Marriage and the law “About Children`s Rights” regulates children`s rights in Azerbaijan. Although the laws prohibit and restrict labour activities of people of tender age and ban their being exploited and violated, but still children`s rights are hugely offended in many areas in Azerbaijan as it is done everywhere...

“Human Rights XXI century- Azerbaijan” foundation will hold a round table on the topic of “children exposed to violence in Azerbaijan and their rehabilitation problems” in the conferece hall of Caspian Plaza at 12:00, in May 26, 2009. There will be discussions on violence problems of children in Azerbaijan, prevention of violence towads children, rehabilitation of violated children in this event. Representatives of law enforcement, local law defending organisations, a number of international organisations in Azerbaijan, lawyers and well-known experts in this area have been invited to the round-table meeting.

We invite people who are concerned with this probem(experts, journalists, students etc.) to the round-table meeting!

The 1st of June is International Child Protection Day. The proposals on providing children’s rights were made at the “International Women Conference” on June 1, 1950 and at the conference June 1st was decided to dedicate to children’s international protection. Since that time June 1st has been International Child Protection Day. As in most countries now Azerbaijan also celebrates this date. For the purpose of strengthening state care children, increasing interest of civil society institutions for child problems and defining demographic perspectives regarding to children the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on December 22, 2008. According to the decree the year of 2009 was announced “Year of Child”...

Host – Togrul: The Association for the Development of Civil Society in Azerbaijan has come to a decision to hold an international campaign under the motto “Baku – Hero City.” The “Human Rights in the XXI Century – Azerbaijan” Foundation, member of the Association, has been one of the generators of this decision. We have invited the president of the Foundation Mr. Enver Kafarli to speak in our program.

The “Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan” has held a round table in the International Press Center dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the “Black January”, one of the most crucial events in the national liberation movement of Azerbaijan.

A Round Table on the “Penitentiary System Reforming: the Problem of Political Prisoners” was held yesterday in the ISR Plaza Hotel. The event sponsored by the Henrich Beile Foundation (Germany), was attended by representatives from NGOs, human rights and international organizations.

A training for young politicians sponsored by the Dutch Alfred Mozer Foundation, has been held in Tbilisi. The training was attended by various non-governmental organizations from the three Transcaucasus states - Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The “Human Rights in the XXI Century - Azerbaijan” Foundation, whose primary target is the education of the youth in the sphere of human rights, has commenced the “Law School” project.
